Hello, I'm Laura McGhee, art teacher for Kindergarten through 8th grade students. I have been teaching art at St. Francis for 17 years. I have a Bachelors degree in Fine Art and a masters in Elementary Education. I lived in LaGrange for over 20 years and am now a resident of Elmhurst. My son graduated from St. Francis Xavier in 2008. I love teaching Art and enjoy seeing what the children can create!

Art Projects 2019 |
The students have started the year in art with preparations for a "Kindness Quilt". They are looking forward to some traditional projects like the "8th Grade Stool Project" as well as some new art lessons.
Projects that are coming up will include:
8th Grade "The Scream", an oil pastel drawing with each students picture used.
7th Grade "Ceramic Shoe" a clay creation of a a personalized shoe.
6th Grade "Soft Doll", students learn to sew a button as well as other hand sewing techniques.
5th Grade "Wooden 3-D Robots" students create a robot out of wood, wire, nails, screws etc.
4th Grade "Scarecrows" Students create a crayon relief scarecrow and paint with watercolors on top of the crayon.
3rd Grade "Cursive Name Bugs" Students write their names in cursive and learn to create with the shape of the name.
2nd Grade "Perspective Trees" Students draw a tree with oil pastels from a perspective of looking up at the tree.
1st Grade "Zebra Collage" We create a zebra with construction paper and colored yarn for the mane and tail.
Kindergarten " Vase with watered Flowers" Students have a cut out vase that are decorated with colored construction paper, flowers are drawn with markers and painted with water.
Students have Art class once a week and experience various art media through different projects. We first discuss an artist or art technique such as crayon relief, clay building or paper mache. Examples are shown to students as well as facts about various artists.

- Being an active and engaged learner, participating positively in class, developing ideas and organizing concepts to make decisions about their work.
- Turning in a finished project.
